Fit Families for Cenla- Recap of 2016

Provided volunteers for various local events

FFC provided volunteers & support to various events in central La. including the following:  Bike Transport for the Wild Azalea Challenge, Indian Creek Triathlon, Kids Triathlon, & Red River 10K.  FFC believes it is very important to support these events with volunteers and/or participants to promote physical wellbeing of families through phyiscal exercise.


Bicycle/ Pedestrian Master Plan

FFC participates on a committee with other stakeholders including Rapides Planning Commission, City of Alexandria, City of Pineville, Rapides Police Jury, LaDOTD (Dept. of Transportation) to plan & implement safer infrastructure for cycling & pedestrians in the central La. areas.  FFC worked with the stakeholders listed above in the following:  1) safety street lights on Versailles Blvd;  2) New & improved sidewalks on Texas Ave; 3) Bike lanes on Bolton & Lee; 4) improvements on the Jackson Street Bridge for bike/ped/ & wheelchairs; 5) over 75 "Share the Road" signs throughout central La.; and 6) design & sponsoring of bike/ped La. License plates.  FFC also was honored to be a part of the Bike/Ped Master Plan that was completed in 2016 in which funding will be allocated for areas defined as "high risk" for bikes/pedestrians.


Bike Safety in Rapides Parish Schools

FFC partnered with Academy Sports + Outdoors to teach bike safety skills to 3rd graders in 5 Rapides Parish Schools.  Approximately, 350 students learned skills such as signaling, stopping, avoiding obstacles, riding through obstacles, & a slow race (to promote balance).  Academy Sports donated 2 bikes/helmets to each school for deserving students.  


Senior Olympics - Cycling Race

FFC was honored to host a cycling race & time trial by the Cotton Gin in Alexandria, La.  Senior participants came out in their cycling gear to show their stuff and that they did.



FFC hosted 3 family friendly socials in 2016.  This included hiking, mountain biking,  road riding, & running. These socials were at hosted at Fixx Cycling & Kincaid Lake.   Approximately, 50-75 people participated in these events.  After the activities, participants were able to relax & socialize with each other over a free lunch sponsored by FFC.
