The Sabres have been synonymous with the top of the NHL draft lately, and that doesn't change in 2022. The club is set to make a top-10 selection for the 10th draft in a row. Buffalo had a better season than anticipated this season, but it still wasn't enough to get out of the bottom tier of NHL teams. As a result, it heads into draft night with the No. 9 pick. However, over the past year, general manager Kevyn Adams has been able to stock up on draft picks, and the Sabres also own two more picks in the first round. They Babe Ruth Jersey already have a bunch of exciting young players coming through, and now Buffalo can add a few more prized prospects to its pool. Here's a look at the Sabres picks in the 2022 NHL Draft: TSN's NHL DRAFT HQ| Sabres draft picks 2022: When does Buffalo pick? The Sabres own three picks in the first round, picking at No. 9, No. 16 and No. 28 overall on the first day. They follow that with eight picks scheduled to be made on Day 2. One of the deepest prospect pools in the league can get even stronger in the 2022 draft. They'll also have pick No. 16 which they acquired from the Golden Knights in the Jack Eichel deal. Buffalo also owns the No. 28 pick in the first round, which was acquired from the Panthers in a deal for Sam Reinhart. In total, the Sabres own 11 picks heading into draft day. Here is where and when they'll pick in this year's draft. There isn't a pre sing need at any position when it comes to the draft, butcenteris the one position Adams should target. Buffalo has a plethora of defense and wing prospects, but it doesn't have a true center. Peyton Krebs has the ability to play the position, but he may be utilized more as a wing. Outside of him, none of their top prospects play down Andy Pettitte Jersey the middle. Don't get me wrong, the Sabres have a glaring need at goaltender, but between Devon Levi, Ukko-Pekka Luukonen, and Erik Portillo, the Sabres have options in the coming years to fill that spot. Jake Allen will start Game 2 for the , who try to avoid going into a 2-0 hole against the in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Faceoff in St. Louis is about 3 p.m. ET, with television coverage by NBC, NBC Sports Network, SportsNet in Canada and French-language TVA2. Solomon Thomas Jersey MORE: | | | | The Wild dominated Game 1, stealing home-ice advantage from the Blues. It was a strong performance by the second wild-card team and lowest-ranked club in the Western Conference. . With a win Saturday, the Wild will head home seeking a sweep. Neither team planned lineup changes, according to the . "I don't really see a reason to," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "We're not making any lineup changes," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We need to play better. We need to play our way at a higher level and if we do that, we'll be in good shape. I think every aspect of our game needs to be amped up Colin Kaepernick Jersey a little bit if we expect to beat this team here. They're a real good team and we're going to have to be on top of our game to beat them." Allen allowed two goals in . The others came with the Blues' net empty. NEED PLAYOFF TICKETS? Allen is a rookie who before the series opener had played 67 seconds in the Stanley Cup playoffs. While he had his moments, Elliott hasn't been a game-stealer in Deebo Samuel Jersey his playoff performances. And Hitchcock decided on Allen. Why? "One guy's had a great season, and one guy's had a great last six weeks," Hitchcock told media members. "And we opted to go with the guy that's had a great last six weeks, so either way, it's a decision that we couldn't be wrong with." Elliott spoke to the media on Friday to support Allen. "Sometimes you're going to have to make sacrifices for the team, and everybody in here has done that at some point in their career, this year and in the last game," Elliott said, via the . "Guys have sacrificed a little bit of ice here and there for matchups or whatever the coaches are seeing. This game comes and goes too fast to get upset about the little things. That's the coach's Richard Sherman Jersey decision. It's nothing I can I do, so I control what I can and come here every day with a smile on my face and try to do my best. I'll be ready when called upon. That's how it is right now." LATER: , 8 ET (Rangers lead series 1-0) | , 10:30 ET (Ducks lead series 1-0)

By the time Mike Fisherwon Game 4 of the Predators'Western Conference semifinalagainst the Sharks,it felt like the game should have been over a handful of times before hisgoal at 11:12of tripleovertime to give Nashville the 4-3 victory inthe longest game in franchisehistory. Incredible saves, puck-on-post crime and a truly baffling no-goal-video-review sequence made for an insane start to sudden-death overtime. MORE: First came all these flailing bodies at 4:05of the first overtime with the puck from Joel Ward's shot somewhere underneath the pile and a whistle that seemed like it was never going to be blown. Predators goalie Pekka Rinne madethe initial save, but in doing so went wayout of position, with his back to the rebound. He thenlooked like he had no idea where the puckwas, so he just laid out and hoped for the best.Other Predators just started falling to the ice to help him while the Sharks kept whacking away. no idea how that's not illegally under a Pred, but apparently it was not Stephanie (@myregularface) Le s Mike Schmidt Jersey than a minute later, Predators forward Ryan Johansen fired a shot that was ooooohhhhh so close. Johansen hits the post Stephanie (@myregularface) At 13:15, JoePavelski's shot went into the Predators' goal. Stephanie (@myregularface) Over, right? Sharks bench so confused Stephanie (@myregularface) NOT SO FAST! The goal was immediately waved off for goalie interference and it was unclear when the officials went to review the play whether they were looking at the interference or if Pavelski had put the puck in with his glove. The net camera revealed Pavelski did get his stick on it, so that wasn't an i sue. But they did "confirm" the goalie interference. MORE: The problem? Predators forward PaulGaustad cro s-checkedPavelski in the back, which caused him to fall into Rinne. According to NHL Rule 69 regarding goaltender interference, these are the situations and outcomes ofincidental or "other than incidental" contact with a goaltender whena goal is scored: The attacking player, after having made a reasonable effort to avoid contact, makes contact with the goalkeeper at the time a goal is scored. (Thegoal is allowed)The contact by the attacking player with the goalkeeper is other than incidental and the attacking player, in the judgment of the Referee, did not make a reasonable effort to avoid such contact at the time a goal is scored. (A minor and/or major Jean Segura Jersey penalty may be called at the discretion of the Referee plus a se sment of whatever other penalties may be appropriate up to and including supplementary discipline and the goal is disallowed.) In reviewing the play, officials were looking to determine whether Pavelski made a reasonable effort to avoid contact with Rinne. If he made a reasonable effort, the goal should have counted. If he did not try hard enough to avoid Rinne, the goal should not count. The goalie must be allowed to attempt a save. This is a purposely vague rule because instancesof goalie interference are all different. It waswritten to leave room for judgment by the officials. With video replay, and a situation room in Toronto, there's no way they could me s it up, right? WRONG! MORE: There are many times when it would be difficult to determine the degree to which a player tried to get out of the way, even with replays, but this was not one of those situations. How could Pavelski have made a reasonable effort to get out of Rinne's way Chase Utley Jersey when he was pushed from behind into Rinne? From the NHL's situation room video, the official explanation was:"After reviewing all available replays and consulting withNHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee confirmed that San Jose's Joe Pavelski made incidental contact with Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne before the puck cro sed the goal line, preventing Rinne from doing his job in the crease." How the referee and Hockey Ops staff all looked at this replay and didn't see thatGaustad's cro s-check on Pavelski was the reason Rinne couldn't do his job as opposed toPavelski's unwillingne s to get out of Rinne's way is puzzling and maddening. A line in the rules that addre ses"a defender pushing an attacker into the goalie negates the attacker's ability to avoid contact with the goalie" would help bring some clarity to these types of situations, but the bottom line is there's an expectation that common sense is going to be applied to a vaguely written rule. In this case, common sense was nowhere to be found. The Sharkswere not happy, but they were 100 percent right. DeBoer on OT goalie interference: "Rule has been clear as mud to every coach in the NHL all year so why should it be any different tonight?" Greg Wyshynski (@wyshynski) Couture on no-goal: "If youre reaching up to get a puck and getting cro s-checked from behind, I dont know where you find time to stop. Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) The Predators challenged Logan Couture'sgoal in the second period, arguingWard was offside. Even though it appeared Wardwas offside, he was in the act of trying to get back onside when the puck entered the offensive zone and no one from the Sharks touched the puck until he did. So this was an instance of replay working in the Sharks' favor. The same cannot be said for Pavelski's goal that wasn't. The Sharks should be going home for Game 5 with a 3-1 series lead; instead, they are going home with two more hills to climb Zach Eflin Jersey , and they have every right to be furious.

The age-old debate when it comes to any sport, any league, any team:who arethe best of the best? With the NHL's preseason on the horizon, let's takes a look at the top 25 players at each position right now: forward, defenseand goalie. This list takes into account both recent NHL performance including goals saved above average (GSAA) and what is expected from the playerin the year to come. MORE: | Here Jose Iglesias Jersey are the top 25 NHL goaliesfor the 2019-20 season: 25. Anton Khudobin, Dallas Stars "Dobby" may haveplayedthe best hockeyof his career last season in Dallas. Even though he split time with 2019 Vezina Trophy finalist Ben Bishop, Khudobin played in 41 games more than he ever had in one year before. Dallas deployed its goaltenders at a near-even split last season (Ben Bishop appeared in 46 games)andseemedto benefit heavily from both goalies getting rest throughout the year, ultimately finishing second in total goals against (200). Wow, Anton Khudobin. That's nasty.: NHL Yahoo Sports NHL (@YahooSportsNHL) Khudobin is anNHL veteran by now and owns an affable, laid-back reputation, but his career has been a series of ups and downs. The 33-year-old hasnever quite established himself as a starter but has succeeded in different stints with Boston, Carolinaand now Dallas. Hehas perhaps found an ideal situation in the Lone Star State. DALLAS STARS: 24. Carter Hart, Philadelphia Flyers Philadelphia's hopes and dreams rest in the puck-stopping skills oftheir 21-year-old netminder whomade his NHL debut on Dec. 18. Just two years prior, he was thefirst goalie selected in the NHL Draft (48th overall)and turned heads with anoutstanding performance 1.81 goals-against average, .929 save percentage in six games for Canada atthe 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. Good with the glove is a skill Carter Hart po se ses. NHL (@NHL) Hart played out a succe sful first NHL season, collectinga 16-13-1 record and .917 save percentage and mannedan eight-game winning streak in January. The Flyers have committed to his development by bringing in veteran Brian Elliott to platoon withand mentor the young Sherwood Park, Alta., native. Philadelphiahasnot advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2012 and while goaltending hasn't always been the strongest position for the Flyers, Hart could be the goaltender that brings them back to postseason succe s. MORE: 23.Thomas Grei s, New York Islanders One half of the Islanders' terrific goalie tandem alongside Robin Lehner last season, Grei s went 23-14-2 with a 2.28 GAA, .927 save percentage and five shutouts. His efforts gave him a share of the William M. Jennings Trophy with Lehner after compiling a league-low 2.33 GAA. A perennial backup, the 33-year-old suited up in 43 games, the most he's played in since 2016-17 (51). Thomas Grei s coming in hot with the Save of The Year! Congrats Grei ser! New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) Grei s appears destined to play out his last season under contract in New York as a backup or "1B" option, again, after the Islanders signed Niko Goodrum Jersey Semyon Varlamov to a four-year deal in July.Hissolid track record makes him a perfectly capable goalie when he's not forced to carry a heavy workload. MORE: 22.Martin Jones, San Jose Sharks Jones is among the top five goalies in games played over the last three seasons. Unfortunately, that heavy workload has not worked for him. Two of those seasonsfeature respectable goaltending numbers;last season his play nosedived. His save percentage (.896) was 51 out of 54 totalgoaltenders who played 25-plus games in 2018-19. Martin Jones has been sharp.Another big one here late in the second. NHL on NBC (@NHLonNBCSports) The postseason really did not prove better for San Jose's goalie. While the Sharks took the eventual Stanley Cup championBlues to the Western Conference finals sixth game, Jones struggled despite facingmore than 30 shots against in only eight of 20 playoff games. Chalk it up as one poor season in an otherwise steady career, but Jones is under contract for five more seasons and if he can't bounce back it could be a long season in San Jose. SHARK WEEK 2019: 21. Semyon Varlamov, New York Islanders Varlamov's eight- James McCann Jersey year tenure in Colorado came to an end after playing 49 games last season witha.909 save percentage to boot as Philipp Grubauerstarted for the Avalanche in the playoffs. With Grubauer slated to be the team's starter moving forward, Varlamov signed with the Islanders in July.He shouldcapable ofmore than he showed last season, although hehas only played more than 50 games once in the last three seasons. The 31-year-old enters perhaps an idealscenario asNew York excelled with a two-goalie tandem last season. Perhaps Varlamov will find his gameon Long Island as Lehner, a 2019 Vezina Trophy finalist, did last season. NHL FARM SYSTEM RANKINGS:Top prospect pipelines for the 2019-20 season 20.Petr Mrazek, Carolina Hurricanes Mrazek played an important rolein one of the best succe s stories last season, helping backstop the Hurricanes all the way to the Eastern Conference finals. However, the season was not an immediate succe s story on Jan. 1, the Hurricanes were outside the playoff picture. The 27-year-old netminder's commanding play in the final half of the season (15-5-1, .924save percentage after Jan. 13) helped Carolina earn a wild card spot. Just look at how quickly Petr Mrazek's glove moves NHL on NBC (@NHLonNBCSports) In the postseason, Mrazek was in goal for Leonys Martin Jersey the Hurricanes upset ofthe No. 2 seeded Washington Capitals in seven games. He got hurt in the next round but did return for the conference finals where he faltered in net. Now healthy, he'll lead Carolina in net and they'll surelyneed him again next spring. 19. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings The 2018-19 season was certainly the worst season of Quick's 12-year career in 46 games he had a losing record with a 3.38 GAA, .888 save percentage and just19 quality starts. Why does he appear at No. 19 on this list, then, and not at the end? Should he be on it at all? Los Angeles' was the league's second-worst team last season (31-42-9, 71 points), so it's not all on the goalie. While the franchise has plenty of work to do to get back to competing,Quick's season was an extreme deviation from the norm.Perhaps the 33-year-old Connecticut native isno longer th

On a conference call with reporters Monday, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty became the first star player to publicly come forward and expre s pe simismthat the 2019-20season will resume. "Honestly, I don't see how the season is going to return. I really don't," he said pointedly."We have no idea when this virus is going to be over. We're all kind of just sitting at home, obviously hoping to return to Andres Munoz Jersey the season or hope to watch the playoffs return. "I would think the NHL or whoever would make the decision would have to make some kind of decision on that soon, and it seems like it's going to be pretty tough to resume the season or playoffs. I really don't know what's going to happen. Obviously the players would want to play, the fans want to see us playing, we want to play in front of the fans, but it seems like it's going to be pretty tough to do that." Doughty readily admittedhis opinion was clouded and would be different if the Kings were in playoff contention; at the season's pause, Los Angeles hadthe league's fourth-worst record. He also added that, in his opinion, if theStanely Cup playoffs were to happen, it wouldn't hold the same weight. "I know they so badly want to give out the Greg Garcia Jersey Stanley Cup this year, but in all seriousne s, it's not going to be like winning a real Stanley Cup because the regular season wasn't finished," the two-time Stanley Cup champion said."There's teams that couldn't get in the playoffs and then I'm a suming they'd have to come up with a different playoff format. ...I'm not a huge fan of it, as much as I want to play. I just don't want things to go into next season and affecting those. But whatever happensis kind of out of my control, and I'm ready for whatever happens." On the flip side, how would Doughty feel about a tournament to decide who gets the top pick, something the Kings have a better chance of winning than the Stanley Cup right now? "That's dumb. Yeah, that's dumb," he said. No one knows what will happen, not even commi sioner Gary Bettman , "we dont know when we can come back but its something were monitoring on a daily basis." TSN's Pierre LeBrun did report thatthe league is willing to delay Tony Gwynn Jersey the start of the next season until November, which would also involve canceling the All-Star Game andbye weeks, and the playoffs running until late-June. A reminder that the NHL is willing to delay the start of next season until November in order to finish off this season if po sible with summer hockey. NHL believes they can play a full season next year starting in November, cancel ASG/bye week, play playoffs into late June '21 Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) If the summer scenario does come to fruition, Doughty said it would be difficult to play following a long layoff, using the2016 World Cup as an example. "We had to play Nick Martini Jersey that World Cup thing kind of out of nowhere, and that was so hard to go into games like that just after one or two exhibition games, coming right out of the summer," he recalled. "I never recovered from that World Cup for the rest of the season I was sore after that, I was sore for the first few exhibition games. "I was in absolute pain that whole season. "Now that I think about it, as much as I could mentally be in game mode, your body's not ready for it if you don't get a full offseason of training and if you don't get to play a long training camp with like seven exhibition games. If you only get a week training camp with a couple of exhibition games, you're going to ruin your body."

The David Clarkson situation in Toronto managed to get a little more awkward on Tuesday. Clarkson, two years into a seven-year long albatro s of a contract, was a healthy scratch on Sunday and Maple Leafs coach Peter Horachek had a post-morning skate Cheslor Cuthbert Jersey conversation. It was le s than pleasant and carried the me sage that Clarkson would sit again on Tuesday. MORE: | | The Horachek-Clarkson conversation was fairly animated ... and lasted several minutes. Clarkson looks flabbergasted. Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) Really looks like Clarkson is giving Horachek his two cents. Doesn't look too happy. Michael Traikos (@Michael_Traikos) Horachek/Clarkson conversation goes nearly 10 minutes. Clarkson didn't look happy at any point. Jonas Siegel (@jonasTSN1050) Afterward, Horachek called Clarkson "a proud guy" Melky Cabrera Jersey and "A competitor" Clarkson said he and Horachek were "just talking" and that he has a ton of respect for coach. Said scratch is a me sage. Stephen Whyno (@SWhyno) It's tough to blame either of them, really. Clarkson is annoyed that he's not playing, and Horachek is trying to do what's best for his team. In any case, it's tough to see this ending well for Toronto; Horachek, in an overwhelming likelihood, won't be back next season. Clarkson, though, isn't going anywhere without a major cost to the Leafs and considering they're cap-strapped andone of the league's few worst teams, that's even worse than it sounds. Clarkson carries a $5.25 million cap hit through 2020, and his contract might as well be buyout-proof; because of bonuses, he'd cost the Leafs several million in dead money if they went down that route. He also has a no-movement clause. So ... good Wily Peralta Jersey luck. The irony of it all, , Clarkson is, generally, who he seemed to be before he signed the contract. Clarkson is basically performing up to his career standard, arguably even a touch better, with an 11.4 percent shooting percentage that has helped him to 10 goals. Even though he has only scored three of those in the last 30 games and hasnt recorded a power-play point since Oct. 31 despite consistently being used on the second unit, its hard to argue his play has dropped off. Other than a 30-goal season in 2011-12, when Clarkson played major minutes in New Jersey and benefitted from hot shooting, this is who he is. Mike Moustakas Jersey And who he'll be for five more seasons.Clarkson said he looked at the scratches as sending a me sage to the rest of the team. Beyond the players, though, it certainly sends a me sage to anyone who'd somehow mi sed it before: Five years is a long time.

Time was Carl Yastrzemski Jersey going to be the only option to let the injury fully heal, and its taken longer than expected. "Butterfly, stretching out its goaltending. Its not the easiest position to play. Thats why we wanted to make sure we were 100 percent." A report last month claimedthe Canadiens and Price planned to call it aseason, though the team refrained from making the official announcementfor "marketing purposes Joe Kelly Jersey ." The team was concerned about tumblingticket sales after the Canadiens plummetedfrom its first place spot in the conference. Each Monday during the NHL season, Rob Mixer takes a look at the biggest storylines from the hockey week that was. The Metropolitan Division is Blank Jersey just silly. Theres never been a ton of separation, but now that the bye weeks are here, were starting to get a clearer picture of just how insane this second half race is going to be. A couple of weeks ago, it seemed reasonablethe top three of the Metro would feature some combination of theCapitals, Devils andBlue Jackets but man, its getting air-tight at the top, and the bottom of the division is starting to make a push. Sunday's game between the Rangers and Penguins made things even more interesting. Both teams enteredwith 49 points, a mere four behind the Blue Jackets for second place, guaranteeing that one of those teams would be within two points of second and move the playoff bar up a notch. THE OLYMPIAN: Its just not going to be easy for anyone to create breathing room especially when the volume of division games increases in February. You know what that means: loser points galore! Washington is clearly in the best spot here, sitting six points ahead of Columbus and 11 clear of eighth-place Carolina, which has slipped back after back-to-back regulation lo ses to Washington and Calgary. The team to watch here is New Jersey. The Devils were one of the NHLs best stories in the first half, a team that appears ahead of schedule but owning some le s-than-promising underlying numbers. The Devils dont have strong puck po se sion numbers and get a lot of offense from their bottom six, which doesnt exactly bode well for the long term. Theyve lost six straight after winning five in a row late in Jose Peraza Jersey December. If theres a glimmer of hope for the Devils, its that theyve played three fewer games than Washington and four fewer than Columbus. Lets say the Devils get their act together, which is po sible: They can get themselves back in a better position while they make up ground in games played. But its not going to be easy considering the trends in their game. MORE: TheCentral: Alsocrazy! Weve talked so much about the Metro this season that the Central Division hasnt gotten its fair share of attention. It may be even crazier. Only 10 points separate first-place Winnipeg (59) with last-place Colorado (49), and the Avalanche are making their move having won six in a row. Four points stand between Scott Feldman Jersey Winnipeg and third-place St. Louis, so nothings even close to being settled at the top of the Central. This division has eight quality teams, and two teams capable of turning it on Dallas and Chicago lurking in the background. Can the Jets continue to set the pace? It certainly looks that way. They have the skill and depth to keep racking up points, but you can bet the Predators will do their best to close the gap. Nashvilles played well on the road this season and they already have a tremendous home-ice advantage at Bridgestone Arena; Peter Laviolettes team can take its uptempo skating game to any rink and feel confident in its chances. If anyone can unseat the Jets, my moneys on Nashville. MORE:Finding legitimacy among playoff contenders at season's midpoint A Pacific miracle The Flames are the NHLs hottest team, winners of seven straight and riding the excellent goaltending of Mike Smith into second place in the Pacific. Get this, though: with seven wins in a row, the Flames have pulled to within seven (!) points of the first-place Vegas Golden Knights. This is getting ridiculous. Theres a bit more separation in the Pacific, thanks in large part to the Coyotes, who sit 34 points behind the Golden Knights. Alex Wood Jersey I dont think theyre making the playoffs. Whats going to be watch-worthy in the Pacific is the final spot in the top three. As of today, the Kings, Ducks and Sharks are separated by only four points with Los Angeles leading the group at 53 points. The Kings have lost three straightand, coupled with the Flames run, have fallen back into third place after leading the Pacific earlier in the season and, more recently, trying to close the gap on Vegas. Joel Quenneville confirmed he would make a few lineup changes for Wednesday's Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. He also had a light moment in the pregame media Q&A se sion even cracking a smile when discu sing his fall on the ice during practice. MORE: | The transcript of Quenneville's comments as provided by the NHL: Q:Joel, can you compare Patrick Kane's game in Game 3 versus Game 2 and what you need more of? Quenneville: He had some good looks as we've gone along in each game. He's had some moments where he had opportunities, odd-man Adrian Sampson Jersey breaks, made some good plays, has good patience and recognition with the puck. Obviously trying to get a little bit more balance in our lines is what we did when we got him away, with him and Toews on different lines. That's one of the strengths of our team, when those guys make their linemates go, gives the opposition more to deal with. Q:Is Johnny Oduya out today and Kimmo Timonen in? Quenneville: Johnny is likely and Kimmo is in. Q:Likely in or out? Quenneville: Johnny Oduya is likely in. Q:Saw you took a nasty spill. You OK? Quenneville: Yeah, yeah, I recover quickly (laughter). Q:Did you get that sense it eased the tension? Quenneville: The boys always have fun when the coach goes down (laughter). Q:Joel, what are you expecting from Timonen? Is this a good matchup for him against a team with that much speed? Quenneville: He gives us some predictability. I think his coverage in the D zone, strength in the puck area. He's smart, experienced. I think he did a good job for us throughout the playoffs. Gives him a chance to get in here in a good moment, a big moment. His reads and his position awarene s and coverage in his own end will help him. Q:Talk about Kris Versteeg. Quenneville: Steeger played the first couple games. I thought he played well. We wanted Bryan Bickell} in Game 3. Gave him an opportunity to get in. I don't think Steeger deserved to come out. I think he gives us a threat offensively, defensively aware, strength in the puck area. He can make some plays. I think he can add to some of our offense. Q:Joel, do you need to get (Lightning goalie Ben Bishop)moving a little bit more when you see a guy like that laboring a bit? Quenneville: I think we got to get to the net more Isiah Kiner-Falefa Jersey . I think we didn't get enough traffic at the net or pucks to the net. Had some opportunities, but the quality or the quantity wasn't as frequent as we would have liked, whether it's on the Rougned Odor Jersey power play or five-on-five. He did a good job, but I thought we made it relatively easy on him. (UPDATE: Bishop .) Q:Why do you think home ice hasn't meant that much throughout this postseason? Quenneville: I think that was the case in the regular season as well. A lot of teams had big winning seasons away from home. We ourselves were in a pretty good situation here as well. Teams play the right way, they're consistent, the way they prepare, I think everybody's got deeper lineups now. You have the matchups that are not an i sue. You got four lines you can trust. That can be part of it. Q:Can you explain at all why Bryan Bickell hasn't had the same production he has had the last two seasons? Quenneville: I still thought he was making an impact early in the playoffs with us. I thought he was physically involved. I think he was noticeable. The other years he added that dimension with a little production to it. During the regular season we always say we need more from him, how is his game? I think he's been all right in the playoffs. Hasn't scored like the past seasons. But I think he still brings an element to Adrian Beltre Jersey our team that is noticed. We'll see. Q:Kimmo is a guy that has been around for years. How do you think he's handled having to sit some of these big games? Quenneville: I commend him on being a good pro. Not easy being in a situation before you're not playing and want to be in the lineup in the worst way. He's been going about his busine s quietly, knowing that I'm sure deep down he's been waiting for this moment. But I commend him in a real tough spot, how he's gone through it, waited for his chance. He's practiced well. Put him in the position to get in the lineup as well by the way he's handled things. Q:Can a Game 4 be a "must-win"game if you're down 2-1? Quenneville: We always play the next game as a must-win situation. We went into Game 2 thinking we wanted to win it. Back here excited for Game 3. Put ourselves in a tough spot for today. Not where we wanted to be. Let's go take care of what we need to take care of.

Center depth is something that has been part of the DNA of some of the NHL's most recently succe sful teams. The 2018 Stanley Cup champion Capitals ran out Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom down the middle (while Lars Eller as the 3C more than proved his worth in the postseason). The Penguins have won three Stanley Cups behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, while dre sing guys behind them like Nick Bonino or Derrick Bra sard. The Predators have Martin Prado Jersey Ryan Johansen, Kyle Turris, and Bonino, and the Jets had Mark Scheifele, Paul Stastny and Bryan Little last season. On July 1, theMaple Leafs opened free agency with a bang, . In doing so, Toronto's already solid center depth transformedintoan upper-echeloncaliber so common on contending teams. MORE: Because when the puck drops for the 2018-19 season, the Maple Leafs middle of the depth chart (barring any subsequent moves this summer)will feature Tavares, Auston Matthewsand Nazem Kadri. Which isn't too shabby. The inclusion of Tavares in their lineup leaves the Maple Leafs in a great spot. But where Tavares specifically fits into the lineup is totally up for debate and will be a topic of conversation throughout training camp, and even once the regular season begins. The Maple Leafs' de facto "top line" last year featured, from left to right: Zach Hyman, Matthews and William Nylander. (Somewhat related: it seems highly unlikely thisis the season the Leafs experiment with moving Nylander off the wing.) Head coach Mike Babcock already hinted at a change and how he might choose to initially shuffle his deck, telling reporters he pictured Patrick Marleaujumping onto Matthews' line opposite Nylander, with Hyman sliding down to play with Tavares and Match Marner. If things really shake up in that form, here's what Toronto's line could look Sandy Alcantara Jersey like: Patrick Marleau Auston Matthews William Nylander Zach Hyman John Tavares Mitch Marner Andreas John sonNazem KadriKasperi Kapanen Josh LeivoPar LindholmConnor Brown But for the sake ofcontinuity (and dreaming up different scenarios) let's keep that Matthews line with Hyman and and Nylander intact.Tavares, from a usage and "depth chart" perspective, would slot in right after that. From a talent, name value perspective, Marleau on the left and Marner on the right would make a lot of sense. Not to mention, the speed and puck skills from a player like Marner could help create extra room for Tavares, while Marleau po se ses some of the attributes of Anders Lee, Tavares' recent Islanders linemate whom he lifted to a career-high 40 Starlin Castro Jersey goals in 2017-18. SPORER: If that's how Babcock constructed his top six, Kadri would slide into the 3C role, and the forward group might look something like this: Zach HymanAuston Matthews William Nylander Patrick MarleauJohn Tavares Mitch Marner Andreas John sonNazem KadriKasperi Kapanen Josh LeivoPar LindholmConnor Brown In the past, Babcock has shown, to some degree, to value balance throughout the lineup. Even after brining in Marleau on a three-year, $18 million contract last summer,he kept Hyman on the top line on Matthews' wing, instead playing Marleau with Kadri. And that was , and also gave Babcock a hard-match option to help make things a bit easier on Matthews at times. MORE: So let's keep Marleau and Kadri together, but move Marner onto Tavares' line. Babcock could maybe roll with something like this: Zach HymanAuston Matthews William Nylander Andreas John sonJohn Tavares Mitch Marner Patrick MarleauNazem KadriConnor Brown Josh LeivoPar LindholmKasperi Kapanen Would Babcock consider not touching that Kadri line at all, leaving that and Matthews' unit with his running mates intact? Babcock has been pretty high on Kapanen he after Kapanen was recalled from the AHL early in 2018 and John son also looked very effective in the postseason, scoring a key goal in their first-round series against theBruins and buzzing around the ice (he also potted two in nine regular season games down the stretch). John son went back to the AHL and put up 10 goals and 24 points in 16 playoff games to lead the Marlies to a Calder Cup, very much not looking the part of a minor league forward. This configurationwould strap Tavares with two rockets on either wing, a line that Babcock could throttle with offensive zone starts to leave Kadri and Marleau to do more of the defensive zone lifting (the same could really be said of a line of John son/Tavares/Marner). The Leafs have given Babcock a wealth of tools, and now it's on him to figure out how to get the most out of Trevor Richards Jersey all this talent. So, we meet again. The annual playoff clash between the Penguins and Capitals is a rite of springtime in the NHL, even if the rivalry has been decidedly one-sided throughout its history. This year, Alex Ovechkin and Co. are aiming to throw the monkey from their back once and for all. By now, you know the numbers: Pittsburgh has ended Washington's season in the second round each of the last three years. Open it up to all-time meetings, and the Penguins have won nine of10 a six-game victory in the first round of 1994 the only exception. Pittsburgh has won five Stanley Cups in its history; all five included a series victory over Washington along the way. You get the picture. ThePenguins arethe Capitals' playoff overlords. GOLDEN STANDARD Is there a reason to believe this year will be any different? After falling into an0-2 deficit in the first round, the Capitals regrouped behind Braden Holtby and rose to the occasionwhere previous iterations might have folded. Relieved of any Presidents' Trophy burden, the team has a now-or-never attitude about it. The Penguins, meanwhile, revealed a few potential holes before eventually overpowering the Flyers in their opening round. An injured EvgeniMalkinwon't be operating at 100 percent when he returns. Sidney Crosby is; he and runningmate Jake Guentzellead the playoffs in points. By rule, a Capitals Stanley Cup (miles away as it may still be) won't be valid without first pa sing the Penguins' test. It's now or never, indeed. Tyler Glasnow Jersey Sporting News' NHL experts , and make their series predictions below. MORE: Capitals (-130) vs. Penguins (+110):Schedule, picks, predictions Game 1: April 26 at Washington, 7 p.m. (NBCSN, CBC, fuboTV)Game 2: April 29 at Washington, 3 p.m. (NBC, CBC, fuboTV)Game 3: May 1 at Pittsburgh, 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN, Sportsnet, fuboTV)Game 4: May 3 at Pittsburgh, 7 p.m. (NBCSN, Sportsnet, fuboTV)*Game 5: May 5 at Washington, TBD*Game 6: May 7 at Pittsburgh, TBD*Game 7: May 9 at Washington, TBD Regular season meetings: PIT, 3-2 (10/11); WSH, 4-1 (11/10); PIT, 7-4 (2/2); WSH, 3-1 (4/1) Brandon Schlager:Keep a close eye on EvgeniMalkin'sinjury (lower body). He didn't play in the Penguins' clinching Game 6 win over the Flyers, mi sed practice all week . With Crosby and Guentzel clicking, Malkin's absence may not matter a ton, but it would restrict the Penguins from deploying a third line with Phil Ke sel and level the playing field a bit in terms of firepower. Ovechkin, as always, was the engine that drove the Capitals in Round 1, but credit depth scoring and goaltending that brought them back against the Blue Jackets. No. 8's going to get his; hehas 26 points in 20 career John Jaso Jersey playoff games against the Penguins. So Washington's succe s isincumbent upon guys like T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson,Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom, et al, continuing to provide support, throwingMatt Murray (who looked shaky at times in the first round)off his game. All told, the Penguins haven't lost a playoff series to the Capitals since 1994. No reason to expect this year will be any different until Washingtonexorcises its demons. Penguins in 7 games Jim Cerny: The Capitals enter this series on a post-season roll, if you will, though that doesn't guarentee the Penguins won't roll them out of the playoffs again for the third straight year and fourth time in the Alex Ovechkin - Sidney Crosby eras. Still, Washington won the final four games of their opening-round series with Columbus, killed off the last 16 Blue Jackets power plays in that series and own a smoking-hot power play which scored at least once in all six games in the first round. Braden Holtby responded to the jolt of being benched to start that series by saving his team's rear end upon his return during Game 2 and is at the top of his game after a shaky regular season. Ovechkin is producing, as well -- not always a given for the Great 8 during the playoffs. The Penguins, of course, are the two-time defending champions, and -- as noted -- own the Caps in the post-season. They are deep and have showcased an ability to receive major contributions up and down their lineup at key times the past few postseasons. They also seem to have the ability to wake up and simply explode offensively when needed -- just ask the Flyers about that. However, there were fi sures in their defensive play in the first round and during the regular season, and the Pens will start the second round without Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin, both of whom are injured. It's going to be a long series, and if it goes seven games, the Penguins will find a way to win. However..... Capitals in 6 games Evan Sporer: Heres what were approaching in terms of NHL playoff repetitivene Josh Harrison Jersey s. The year will be 2028. Alexis Lafreniere will be leading the Chicago Blackhawks to their third Stanley Cup in five years after Chicago once again struck gold in the draft lottery. And in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Penguins and Capitals will have just each won their respective first-round series, setting the stage for Crosby-Ovechkin 17, with the seven-game series scheduled exclusively on Wednesday nights on NBC, billed as the night you love to hate. Or something like that. After providing a brief scare in the first round, the Penguins put away the Flyers for good. A branch below on the bracket, the Capitals in very un-Capital-like-fashion erased a 2-0 deficit to knock off the Blue Jackets. So, here we go Gregory Polanco Jersey again, another opportunity forOvechkin to slay the beast, and the Capitals to get over a hump that has for so long seems insurmountable. Of course, this series is about so much more than those two generational talents, and thats where I begin to worry about the Capitals. For as great as John Carlson has been, , and as funny as it was to watch Wilson score big goals, we kind of began to see the Penguins figure it out in the first round. Im not a really big believer in flipping the switch but this Penguins team more than anyone else in the league understands what it takes to get through the playoffs, and if there were times they didnt perform up their own standards in the regular season, well, they certainly have a locker room full of guys who have the previous experiences to draw upon. The Penguins' third line will absolutely run over the Capitals' third line. Were talking about Connor Sheary, Derick Bra sard and Bryan Rust going head to head against Brett Connolly, Lars Eller, and Devante Smith-Pelley. With respect to that second group of three, who Im sure are all very nice gentlemen and will try very hard, I would much rather be putting my eggs in that first basket. Curious if Malkins health i sues linger into Round 2, but if hes at nearly

Maple Leafs fans didn't nece sarily see this move coming; defenseman Rasmus Sandin, the Leafs' 2018 first-rounder Cal Ripken Jersey who made the team out of training camp after an impre sive preseason, was loaned to the AHL-affiliate Marlies on Monday after a six-game trial. Sandin, who is likely to develop into a top-4 and lead the next wave on the Leafs' blue line, racked up two a sists in six games. While he wasn't nece sarily playing terribly and showed that he could keep up at the NHL level coach Mike Babcock had different thoughts. "We can't get him on the power play in front of the guys we got, can't get on the penalty kill. So Baltimore Orioles Jersey in the end, a real good night (is just) 14 minutes," Babcock told reporters on Monday, . THE LINEUP: With Travis Dermott eventually coming back into play after undergoing shoulder surgery in May, the Leafs had to make changes with a crowded battle on the bottom pairing. And at the end of the day, ending down Sandin was likely the logical answer. The 19-year-old isn't getting much playing time, and can benefit from more ice time and responsibility as well as a bigger role at the AHL level. Babcock also noted that Richard Bleier Jersey he wanted to look out for the young defenseman, especially after he got hit in the head in Saturday's game against the Red Wings. Babcock on Sandin: "I didn't like it last game when he got hit in the head ... a (19)-yr-old, I didn't have much appreciation for that ... but I also say to myself, 'What am I doing?' you have to look after him the best way you can & sometimes you got to be a prudent parent" Mark Masters (@markhmasters) At the AHL level with Toronto, Sandin has impre sed; in 44 games in 2018-19, the 5-11, 187-pound defender registered 28 points and a plus/minus rating of minus-10. He also added 10 points in 13 playoff games for the Marlies. In his place, the Leafs have called up defenseman Kevin Gravel, who has played in three AHL games with Toronto, going without a point while J.J. Hardy Jersey recording a plus/minus rating of minus-1. With 109 NHL games under his belt, the 6-4, 212-pound blueliner has more NHL experience and can be a bottom-pairing or extra defenseman for the Leafs moving forward. As per , Sandin will likely not return to the NHL this season, pending no significant injuries.

With the Stanley Cup Final between the Avalanche and Lightning in the books, it's time to turn the page to the 2022 NHL Draft later this week. The Canadiens Matt Wieters Jersey have the first overall pick and will be looking to find that next franchise player. Shane Wright was considered the obvious choice by fans and bettors alike, but some recent reports have shaken up the odds boards ahead of the first round on Thursday. The Canadiens are reportedly undecided on who they will take with the top overall pick in this weeks draft. However, they confirmed Wright, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Logan Cooley are being considered. Wright remains the current betting favorite to go No. 1, but Slafkovsky has been picking up steam over the past week. Below, we'll break down the value in betting on Wright, Slafkovsky, and Cooley to be drafted first in the 2022 NHL draft. All odds courtesy of Sports Interaction NHL Draft 2022 odds: Who's the favorite to go No. 1? Shane Wright, Kingston Frontenacs, OHL (-278). Wright is still the odds-on favorite to be selected with the first overall pick on Thursday night. Wright has seen his odds to go No. 1 drop from -5000 to -278 after hockey insider Bob McKenzie released his final draft rankings on June 28. McKenzie had Slafkovsky ranked as the top prospect over Wright based on speaking with 10 scouts. However, one NHL team's head scout told McKenzie Adam Eaton Jersey that neither Slafkovsky nor Wright are guaranteed to be first-line players in the NHL. Neverthele s, it would be shocking to see the Canadiens pa s on Wright, who had played well this season for Kingston in the OHL. The young forward scored 94 points (32 goals, 62 a sists) and played some center too. Sporting News Bryan Murphy that Wright is an excellent playmaker, which is something that the Canadiens could use after this past season. Wright still doesn't offer a ton of value for the top spot, but with the way his odds have dropped, it certainly feels like he does. If they continue to dip -- barring a report that he speciallywon'tbe the top selection -- consider a small wager. NHL Draft 2022 odds: Who's a sleeper to go No. 1? Juraj Slafkovsky, TPS, Liiga (+175). If Montreal doesnt take Wright at No. 1, it will likely select Slafkovsky. The left winger played last season in Liiga, Finlands top profe sional hockey league. Slafkovsky did not do much in the regular season, scoring just 10 points. However, he became one of the stars of the 2022 Winter Olympics, producing seven goals and helping Slovakia take home the bronze medal. Slafkovsky finished draft season as the No. 1 ranked European skater, surpa sing Joakim Kemell. While the Sean Doolittle Jersey plus odds might be temping given the uncertainty around Wright at the top spot, Slafkovsky might be a better bet to be selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Devils (-195). NHL Draft 2022 odds: Who's a long shot to go No. 1? Logan Cooley, USA U18, NTDP (+2009). Montreal GM Kent Hughes threw a significant curveball on Monday when he said that Cooley is being considered for the No. 1 overall pick. The 5-10 center is committed to playing at the University of Minnesota next season, but SNs James Bourque Jersey Bryan Murphy said Cooley . Cooley played outstanding with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, netting 75 points (27 goals, 48 a sists) in 51 games. He also performed well at the 2022 IIHF World Under-18 Championship. If the Canadiens were to take Cooley, they wouldnt see him for a few years, which they might be OK with. Hes the odds-on favorite to be selected with the No. 3 overall pick by the Coyotes (-229) and the third-best odds to go No. 2 (+510). If you're not going to bet on Wright to go first, Cooley offers much more value than Slafkovsky and was at least name-checked by Hughes. He doesn't seem to fit a need for the Devils, so if they stay at No. 2, it's unlikely Cooley would go there.

The Senators have an eye on a big name for their open head coaching job. Ottawa is expected to interview Hockey Hall of Famer and 2014 Jack Adams Award winner Patrick Roy for its head coaching job, according to a report from the . Roy played 19 years in the NHL with the Canadiens and Avalanche, Edgar Martinez Jersey winning four Stanley Cups, three Conn Smythe Awards and three Vezina Trophies. After retiring in 2003 he went on to be the general manager and head coach of the Quebec Remparts of the CHL where he won the Memorial Cup in his first year with the team. He stayed with Quebec for nine seasons before taking over the head Daniel Vogelbach Jersey coaching job for the Avalanche in 2013. That year he won the NHL's Coach of the Year Award (Jack Adams) after leading Colorado to a 112-point season. Colorado ultimately lost in the first round of the playoffs and failed to make the postseason in both of Roy's final two years with the team. Roy stepped down as head coach in 2016, citing a lack of input in personnel decisions. Jared Bednar has been the team's coach since.
